Hardtack Candy
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- 3/4 cup light corn syrup
- 1/2 teaspoon oil flavoring of choice
- 1/2 to 1 teaspoon food coloring
Line a 9 x 13 inch baking pan or a large baking sheet with aluminum foil .
In a 2 quart saucepan over medium heat, bring the water and corn syrup to a boil stirring the until the sugar dissolves and the mixture begins to boil.
Cook without stirring to the hard crack stage (300 degrees) remove from the heat.
Remove from heat and quick stir in the ainse oil and the vegetable coloring.
Pour the hot syrup onto the baking sheets in thin even layers when lukewarm, deeply score the slabs of candy when cold, carefully break into pieces along the score lines wrap each piece individually in waxed paper
