Horehound Candy

1/4 cup boiling water
2 teaspoons crushed horehound
1/4 cup light corn syrup
1 cup granulated sugar
Pour the boiling water over the horehound and let stand 10 to 20 minutes, strain the horehound through a cheesecloth discarding the horehound and reserving the water.
Butter a large baking sheet
Combine the horehound water, sugar and syrup in a 2 quart saucepan.
cook slowly without stirring to the hard crack stage (300 degrees)
Pour onto the buttered baking sheet, cut into squares before it hardens.
Store in an airtight container
Note - you can steep horehound tea to make the flavoring.
